A file containing a report produced by George Clutton, the British ambassador to Poland, on developments in Poland during 1960. The report covers the varying fortunes of Polish agriculture during 1963, which produced an excellent harvest, but saw milk and meat production fall due to the severe winter of 1962–1963; and Clutton's view that the state economic plan for 1964 promises "a gloomy year for the consumer". The report also discusses developments in relations between the Polish government and the Roman Catholic Church; and affairs within the Polish United Workers' Party, with Clutton claiming that the party shows "signs of sharp dissension and dwindling confidence", and that "it was a poor year" for Władysław Gomułka, the Polish leader. The report further comments on developments in Polish international relations; and a fall in the living standards enjoyed by the Polish public, which contributed to a rise in popular discontent.
