A file of correspondence, reports, and press material concerning political developments in Albania. The documents contain a wide range of articles from the British and American press reporting on developments including a purge of senior officials from the Party of Labour of Albania; a trial of Albanian military officers accused of supporting an American-backed plot to overthrow the Albanian regime; and the execution of a number of Albanian officials accused of carrying out espionage for the Soviet Union. The documents also include a report on the recent deterioration in relations between Albania and the Soviet Union; and a note on a recent congress of the Party of Labour of Albania, at which the Albanian government gave several statements asserting the ideological supremacy of Stalinism, thereby criticising the Soviet government for abandoning it. Other documents cover how the British government has no diplomatic representation in Albania.
