A file of correspondence, reports, and press material concerning cultural developments in Poland. The documents contain a report on a tour of Krakow by George Clutton, the British ambassador to Poland. This report covers meetings between Clutton and several local politicians; the deputy mayor of Krakow's wish that Krakow should be twinned with a British city, with Oxford suggested as a possible "sister city"; and Clutton's theory that the Polish government has constructed a major steel works near to Krakow to temper the traditionally liberal attitudes present at the city's university. The documents also include a series of articles published in the Polish press by Adam Schaff, a leading Polish Marxist philosopher, arguing that communism is weakened in its ideological struggle with the West by "needless clinging to dictatorial ways in the areas it controls". Other documents cover the signature of a cultural agreement between Poland and Brazil.
