Northern (N): Hungary (NH). Admission into UK Hungarian Nationals

1958

A file of correspondence concerning relations between Britain and Hungary. The documents discuss the policy of the British government with regard to Hungarian nationals who wish to visit Britain for a short time; and a request from the chargé d'affaires at the Hungarian legation in London for the British government to outline the requirements regarding the acquisition of visas for Hungarian nationals who wish to live in Britain. The documents also contain a note prepared by the Foreign Office covering the requirements for foreign nationals wishing to obtain a visa to live and work in Britain, whether they are a diplomatic official or not; and a discussion of the process that members of the British legation in Budapest must undergo to obtain a visa to re-enter Hungary. Other documents cover the British government's policy of admitting refugees from Hungary; and a relaxation of visa restrictions by the Hungarian government.
