Northern (N): Hungary (NH). Credits held by National Securities Corporation

1958

A file of correspondence concerning relations between Hungary and Britain. The documents discuss a claim by the Hungarian government for the recovery of credits held by the British National Securities Corporation; and the view of the Foreign Office that these assets should have been seized under the post-war Treaty of Peace with Hungary. The documents also cover the belief of the National Securities Corporation that there is "no justification" for the Hungarian government's allegation that Hungarian funds are being illicitly retained by British organisations; and a statement released by the British government claiming that the Hungarian funds have been adequately "disposed of".
