A file containing documents relating to financial claims against the Bulgarian government, and a British legal instrument entitled "The Foreign Compensation (Bulgaria) Order". This order allowed for the determination of claims to participate in a scheme to distribute money paid by the Bulgarian government to settle claims against it arising from previous debt and from nationalisation programmes. Documents in the file include the published text of the order; papers required to enable the passage and printing of the instrument; and letters to consular and colonial posts asking for it to be brought to the attention of potential claimants. Other documents in the file include correspondence about claims both under and outside the terms of the order; a first draft of a paper to be discussed with the Bulgarians enabling the revision of the 1955 Anglo-Bulgarian financial agreement; and the English and Bulgarian texts of that agreement.
