Northern (N): Czechoslovakia (NC). Visa Arrangements for Staff of HM Embassy

1958

A file of correspondence concerning British diplomatic officials in Czechoslovakia. The documents discuss a threat by the Czechoslovak government to force officials at the British embassy in Prague to submit visa applications to leave the country at least seven days in advance of the visa being required, rather than the usual period of "two or three days"; and a claim by the Czechoslovak government that this is being introduced in response to a series of delays faced by Czechoslovak diplomatic officials attempting to gain visas in Britain. The documents also cover the view of the British embassy in Prague that it is "unreasonable to treat the problems of visas for British staff in Prague and for Czechoslovak staff in London on an exact basis of reciprocity", as Czechoslovak diplomatic officials in Britain do not require exit visas to leave the country.
