Northern (N): Czechoslovakia (NC). Budget and Exchange Rates of Czechoslovakia

1958

A file of correspondence and reports on exchange rates and financial matters in Czechoslovakia. Subjects covered in the file include the protests of the British government following the introduction of new arrangements for the exchange rates of non-commercial payments. The protests centre on the argument that the rate of exchange for sterling when applied to any transactions, commercial or otherwise, should reflect the relationship between sterling and the U.S. dollar, as indicated in the Sterling Payments Agreement of 1949. Further commentary considers the arrangements for exchange rates in other Soviet-bloc countries; and a note on sterling and dollar rates for 1958. The file also includes details of the Czechoslovak state budget for 1958; the text of the new budget law; and an enquiry on how to ascertain the income of a person living in Czechoslovakia.
