A file of correspondence on relations between Czechoslovakia and West Germany. Subjects covered in the file include the Czechoslovak proposals for the establishment of diplomatic relations; and the publication of a letter from the Czechoslovak prime minister, Viliam Široký, to the West German chancellor, Konrad Adenauer, arguing the case for relations but criticising the adoption of atomic weapons by the West German army. Further documents include the text of an interview given by the Czechoslovak Minister of Foreign Affairs, Václav David, to a Bavarian Radio representative, in which he describes the case for the normalisation of relations. The file also includes details of a West German protest following a border incident at Treppenheim, where guards crossed the frontier in pursuit of a Czechoslovak soldier who defected with weapons and ammunition; and an anti-German campaign in Czechoslovakia, which included a press conference and the release of a statement on German revanchism.
