A file of correspondence on the Allied occupation of Germany. The file contains resolutions passed by British trade unions and peace movements calling on the British government to withdraw its occupation army from Germany, and to call a conference of the four great powers to arrange a complete military withdrawal from the European continent. The Foreign Office's replies to these resolutions pointed out that British troops were in West Germany as part of NATO; that the Soviet Union had made no serious proposals on collective security or on the reunification of Germany; and that the withdrawal of NATO, especially American, forces would leave Western Europe vulnerable to Soviet aggression. The file also discusses discrepancies noted by the Foreign Office Library between the English and French texts of the 1954 Paris Agreements between the United Kingdom, the United States, France, and West Germany.
