A file of correspondence on travel between the United Kingdom and Bulgaria. The file contains a letter from the British legation in Sofia asking the Foreign Office if the "fourteen day rule", by which Bulgarians and other Eastern-bloc nationals had to apply for visas at least two weeks before their departure, could be lifted for Bulgaria. The Bulgarian government was much quicker at processing visas for British citizens, and had been pressing the legation for reciprocal measures. The Foreign Office replied that it could not offer Bulgaria concessions that it was not willing to make for the Soviet Union, and that the Security Service was understaffed for visa work.
