A file of correspondence concerning visits by British citizens to the Eastern bloc. The documents discuss a visit by a British psychiatrist to a medical conference in Romania; and the intention of the nephew of Lord Selkirk, the First Lord of the Admiralty, to go on a road trip through the Eastern bloc, which the Foreign Office believes would not be advisable as it is likely he would "have troubles at the frontiers between the various satellites". The documents also cover a visit to Moscow by Aneurin Bevan, the Shadow Foreign Secretary; and a subsequent visit by Bevan to Poland, during which he gave a press conference, lectured to the Polish Institute of International Affairs, and met with Władysław Gomułka, the Polish leader. The documents also contain a report covering visits to Prague and Warsaw by Sir George Bolton, the chairman of the Bank of London and South America.
