Western (W): General (W). Commercial Relations between GDR and Soviet Union

A file of correspondence concerning relations between East Germany and the Soviet Union. The correspondence discusses the economic aspects of recent agreements signed between the two countries relating to the granting of long-term credit on favourable conditions; the provision of freely convertible currency which can be used for purchases abroad; and a substantial increase in the volume of goods to be traded. Further discussions include the reduction of maintenance costs imposed on East Germany for the stationing of Soviet forces; and the provision of Soviet designs, technical aid, material and equipment for the construction of a nuclear power plant.
