The file includes a discussion of whether British government officials should accept invitations to attend a reception for Soviet Army and Navy Day; a report from the British embassy in Moscow noting that the anniversary of Josef Stalin's death was not acknowledged in the Soviet press; and comments on the slogans used for the 1955 May Day celebrations in Moscow. The file also includes an account of a reception held at the Soviet embassy for the anniversary of the October Revolution; comments on a speech by the Soviet Minister of Foreign Affairs about tensions within East-West relations; and a series of letters from British embassies abroad requesting advice on whether to attend Soviet Red Army Day receptions. Other documents include letters from the British embassies in Berne, Ankara, and Moscow recounting local Soviet National Day celebrations.
