A file containing documents concerning notes sent from the Soviet government to the Turkish, West German, and American governments protesting the launching of American meteorological balloons from Turkish territory into Soviet airspace. The file includes transcripts of Turkish and Soviet radio broadcasts about the incident; the French-language text of the Turkish reply to the Soviet note; and a letter from the British embassy in Ankara to the Foreign Office about the incident. The file also includes comments on the Soviet note to the United States and West Germany; and the text of the American reply to the Soviet note. Other documents include a translation of an article published in the Soviet newspaper Red Star about the incident; and a review of Soviet press coverage of the incident.
