Northern (N): Poland (NP). Record of Discussion with Polish Engineer about Imprisonment of His Brother and Mistrust and Suspicion Amongst Poles

1952

A file containing a report of a conversation between a security guard at the British embassy in Poland, and a Polish engineer. The engineer reported having a brother who was jailed for a dispute with a party official; the way criticism of the Soviet Union could be devastating; and the hopes he had for his son's generation of Poles being less subservient. The document highlights the arbitrary arrest of Polish citizens, the climate of suspicion and fear prevalent in Poland, and the personal influence the leadership of the country were able to wield.
